Identification of Veterans: Veteran Reentry Search Service (VRSS)
This secure Web site enables correctional and other criminal justice system entities to identify inmates or defendants who have served in the United States (U.S.) military. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) makes this service available to facilitate its own direct outreach to these Veterans, and to inform the development of Veteran-specific programs in the criminal justice system.
- Correctional facility and court system administrators manually upload a list of current inmate/litigant population to VRSS portal
- VRSS sends list of client records to the VA Department of Defense Identity Repository (VADIR) to identify any records on the list that match a veteran record in the database
- Miami VJP can access to help determine benefit eligibility and facilitate direct outreach to veteran
